I'll second that these are pretty good starter kits. I got one for my nephew and it works fine. Also, there are some combos in the $100 range on Cabelas that sometimes go on sale, and are very good.

Amazing some of the deals out there today!
BTW, Cabelas has a few combo's on sale at 50% off right now. 3 forks for $60 and Prestige plus for $120. I've yet to be disappointed in any Cabelas rods and can tell you there will be there in 5 years to honor the warranty should you need them.
