What lures work best for you guys early in the season when the water is still cold? Hoping to get out when some of the ice melts and water opens up

Jigs, jerks, rattle traps all work well for me.

Remember fish them SLOW like as in painfully slow.

I have had a lot of luck using suspending jerk baits in early season. They work really well when you fish them slow as you can keep them down in the water column for a long time.

Other than that I like to use jigs and bullet rigs and lipless crank baits.

I use lunkerfrogs from the start of fishing season to the end....if the water is still really cold by where you are id throw a small frog until everything warms up

Yea id stick to jigs and jerks but ive caught a few this year fishing shallow cranks. See what works just go slow. Id stay away from topwater until the wayer temps get higher and they become more active

I had really good luck with a weighted black and blue craw fished very slowly.
