Spy Pond Trip #1 Of 2014

Went to Spy early this morning and took the yak out for the second time this spring. Got there right before sunrise, had the place to myself except for all the squawking s**thawks out on that isalnd. Decent morning weather-wise until a consistent rain picked up around 7:30-8, wasn't awful but it lasted until I left around 11 which was enough to get me soaked. Caught three perch on the west side (opposite from the launch) of the island all within about 15 minutes, just after the sun came up, and then nothing for quite a while. I did see a couple of fish jump, which surprised me. Tried some reeds/grass near the western shoreline, but struck out there too. Finally got a couple hits in the far southern part of the pond near those eyesores/apartment buildings under some fallen trees. Caught two little bass, biggest one might've been 14 inches. Phone died about 30 minutes after I got out there (P.O.S.), so I apologize for the lack of pics.

  • Hahaha I think we all do

  • I like it better when the big bass like to hang around in my livewell :-)

  • I find that the big bass like to hang around the drop-offs.

  • Got 11 bass there today, all young bucks. It looked like the bigger fish were suspending in deep water, couldn't get any takers out there. Wind turned into a nightmare. I can handle 20mph gust, but effing 40 mph wind got a little bit dangerous.

  • went there friday afternoon to try my new yak and got skunked lol. you live nearby? we should go any day bro
