My Dad and I made our first open water trip on Boone together around 5:30pm tonight. He came up earlier in the morning to help me with a variety of projects around the house...including setting up an area in the garage as a tackle shop/ work bench. We got out on the water and it was glass, what a day to tour the lake. I took us to the third basin which turns into a section of coves. After about 20 minutes I landed the first fish of the trip, nothing to write home about but nice to break the ice. We cruised around a couple different coves and threw some casts, each landed a pickerel. We only had until around 7:00 to be on the water so around 6:45 we went back into the original cove we started at and fished the shoreline. Not long after my Dad locked on to a special fish. I saw his rod drastically bent and line moving to the right- I knew after only a few seconds it was a big fish. I grabbed the net and he let's out a modest "it's not that big" comment. His rod is only a 6ft medium/light set-up so the battle was great to witness. The lunker was at the bottom in the weeds for a while and we weren't sure if she got off until we saw the line and weeds move towards the boat. When it approached the fish went under the boat and I look up and my Dad calmly works the Pig to the edge of the boat. About 10 seconds later we had it in the canoe- we both had sh*t eating grins on our faces as he took it out of the net. The bass weighed 5lbs 11 oz's and is the biggest bass he's ever caught- what a way to end the day! We took some photo's and sent Larry back in the water. Thanks for a great day Dad and way to make your debut on the Wall!
The ranking score is used to determine how "popular" a trip or location is. It is calculated based off of a weighted average of the number of reviews and the user ratings. For example, a trip with 2 reviews and an average rating of 5 will have a lower "ranking score" than one with 10 reviews and an average rating of 4. This is because even though the first trip has a better average rating, it has not been reviewed as much as the second trip, so it is not as "popular". In the future we may modify the ranking score to take in additional factors, such as the number of views, comments, and photos.
