Jurassic Park
6/14/2014

So last Saturday, Napa and I finally found the puddle we had discovered years back on our way back from a tournament. I remember the place vividly as I caught 2 bass and missed a good one casting from the shore during a 10 cast quick stop. For the last couple years we hadn't returned...unsure why as it proved to be the Jurassic Park of fish and birds!

Our previous trip, one month ago at Maspy, the day started off very promising. We landed around 20 bass by lunch and the tables turned when we took a rope swing break and during my second jump from the top platform I managed to break my right ring finger and dislocate my middle finger as it got hung up on the knot during the release....ouch!

Napa was our Captain for the trip to Jurassic Park. The pond had a plethora of lily pads, stumps and weeds about a foot below the surface. During my trip to Lake Champlain with Chuck AKA the Landlord, I learned how to fish lefty which would serve to be handy "no pun intended" during the first half hour of this trip. I threw the Pad Crasher frog out a ways and shortly after beginning the retrieve I got smashed by a fish. I didn't see the first jump as I was more concerned with positioning my hand correctly on the reel in and he yelps...big fish. I cranked it in abruptly and we saw the big girl jump a couple times before Napa netted the HOG. 5.2lbs and over 20 inches...we had a nice start to the day. Our frogs were getting attacked left and right, with some rather large commotions but very few strikes hit the hook. I lost a couple biguns and Phil did too but we ended up putting around 8 bass and 4 pickerel in the boat during the 5 hour outing. Phil caught a few on a texas rigged worm but the vast majority of the action was on the frog. The weather looked sketchy multiple times during the trip but mother nature held off long enough for us to enjoy the day. Other than the birds and the fish, the other activity was seeing a couple teenage khayaker's head directly towards the storm clouds as we heard their biggest concern was that they forgot the grinder. Hopefully they were still able to enjoy their "J" without the luxury of a grinder. A lot of laughs and some qualitity fish and strikes resulted in a rather Arrogant trip!

Local Pond
5/3/2014

I went out this morning around 10am to a local pond for a few hours. I brought four rods but really only ended using my jig rod. The bite was consistent for the first hour..probably boated around a dozen bass with the biggest around 3 pounds. I decided to go to the far side of the pond where there is a drop off. A few casts in and I hook up with a nice bucket mouth. A couple jumps got the juices flowing and after a nice fight I got it in the boat. She weighed in at 5lbs 10oz's - Sweet! I caught a few more 1-2 pounders before hooking into another big fish....this one got the better of me as it came unbuttoned right at the boat. All in all an active day on the pond!

Lake Boone
2/1/2014

I had plans to fish with my Dad yesterday afternoon on good old Boone. Chuck AKA the Landlord and my buddy Andy joined us as well. We were well prepared for the trip which began a little after noon. Chuck brought some quality bait, my Dad brought some homemade calzones and oatmeal cookies from my Mom (mmmmm- thanks Mom), we had chairs, a sandwedge and golf balls and some skates which were never utilized. Since we only had a half the day to fish we decided to walk a quarter of a mile to the edge of the narrows and set-up camp. Chuck's philosphy on winter Bass behaivor was spot on as we landed around 20-25 fish during the 4 hour outing. My Dad and Chuck got things going with a couple nice keeper bass. The first hour was steady to say the least as we landed around 10 fish. The first two traps I pulled were the biggest fish of the day. Number one was estimated at 4 pounds and fish Number 2 was a Boone Beast estimated around 5.25 -5.5 pounds. I knew the fish was a lunker as it shook it's head ferociously during the majority of the retreve. As I pulled it through the hole, the flouro leader snapped right above the hook. Luckily Sir Lawrence had cleared the hole and Chuck was there to keep him on the ice as I regained my composure. My scale decided not to work yesterday so no official weights could be recorded. We had solid action up until 3:00pm, with mainly largemouth bass, the occasional pickeral and a couple crappie. Chuck also hooked into a catfish that came off right at the hole. We played ice golf during the trip- perfect walking and golfing conditions as there was around an inch of snow on top of the ice. Late in the day, a trap near the shoreline that has been robbed a couple times got Chuck's attention. He only felt the fish for a few seconds but knew it was a BIG one. Unfortunately, she never came back to play again. Next time you'll get em' Chuck. It was great to have my Dad on the ice...our first trip of the year and he landed at least 8 fish with a s*** eating grin on all of them. His last one of the day was around 3 pounds...nice way to cap the adventure. Thanks for joining guys! Definately looking forward to exploring different waters on the next trip.

Lake Boone
1/11/2014

Chuck and I had intensions to hit up a different pond but with the weather forecast last Saturday we decided a safer bet would be good old Boone. Chuck met me at my house around 8:30am and as we approached the foggy ice a few mild showers made an appearance. We headed up towards the narrows and set-up 8 traps with mixed sized bait- ranging from medium to XL. We had a quick flurry of flags to get things going including Chuck landing a solid 3.5-4lber. The action slowed down until around 11:00am and then within a 15 minute spance we had 7 flags and I believe 5 fish. Chuck landed the two biggest of the day...both close to the 4 pound mark. The weather was bizzare all day. We had periods of rain, fog and warm fronts roll through. It was a fun day on the ice and in total we landed around a dozen fish. There were plenty of other anglers, ATV's and a menance of a dirt biker on the ice throughout the 6 hour outing.

We're looking to put together an outing with more ice angler's a week after this weekend....pending ice safety from the warm weather. Stay Tuned.

Lake Boone
12/26/2013

Rick and I headed out yesterday afternoon for a few hours on the ice. We had between 5-6 inches of solid ice in the area we targeted. There were skaters and walkers on the ice so I would say the majority of the lake is safe. We set-up 8 traps with large shiners from Jerry's Bait & Tackle. The snow started to come down as soon as we got out there which made it a bit more scenic. Rick landed the first three fish of the day, all were bass and the first one was a solid two pounds. I went after the next flag and knew that it was a good fish...it ended up being around three pounds. As I was releasing the fish the far and deep trap went up. Rick made his way to the flag as I let my fish go. By the time I caught up to him he already had a Boone Lunker on the ice. The head and length of this fish was very impressive...had it been a little fatter she would have went for over 6 pounds...instead, Rick's first Wall fish in many years tipped the scales at 5lbs 2 ounces. After many outings with Rick, it was great to see him land a big one.

We would only catch one more fish over the next two hours but we didn't care as the first hour produced some great fish in the snow. I'm looking to get out again tomorrow and hopefully land my own December Wall Bass.

11/9/2013

My Dad and I had plans to get out to a local pond today. He couldn't join me until around noon but I got out at 10:00am in search to find some hot spots for us. During the first two hours I focused on the shoreline and a couple rock piles but only hooked up with 2 bass and a perch. All my fish came on a shallow running (3-5 ft) strike king square billed crank bait. No takers on the jig, spinner or swimbait. I made my way to pick up my Dad and set-up a second rod with a 4-5ft diving Strike Pro crank bait. My Dad came bearing gifts as my Mom packed us a nice hearty lunch...thanks Mom!

We started getting lines back in the water around 12:30 and we were letting the wind drift us down the middle of the pond. I hooked up with 5 bass in a 20 minutes stretch...all fish were around a pound. I was hoping my Dad would get things going...it's funny how things change in terms of Dad always cheering on his Son hoping that he has a good game or day on the water and now I find myself always hoping that my Dad finds the big one of the day. I told him to try my crank rod (baitcaster), he is inexperienced with this set-up but for the first few casts, he did well. I saw out of the corner of my eye him get brave and try the overhead deep cast............a few seconds later the bait slams 10 feet in front of him and it's birds nest city lol! I urge him to go back to the spinning rod set-up as I dealt with the aftermath of his last cast and within a few seconds he was on to his first bass of the day! He added another bass and couple perch...one that he somehow caught on the top fin! I continued to catch small bass with the crank bait and shortly before we called it a day I got a big hit! I worked it to the boat and my Dad took care of the net job. It was a nice 4.3lb bass which capped off a great day on the pond. Thanks for joining me bud...maybe we'll get out one more time before the ICE!!!!!

Charles River
11/2/2013

So a few of us decided to meet up at the ramp at the Charles River in Waltham MA. I was the first one there as I arrived at 6:10am to a pitch black ramp....I thought to myself I could have slept in for another hour but ohh well, the weather was mild and I was amped to have a full day on the water at a place I've never explored. Mark and Mitch rolled up next, followed by Bobby and Chris, Chuck and Meat and then Brendan. We were also treated with an appearance from Jonny-Bag-A-Bass himself....as he checked in and shot the s*** for a half hour before we launched.....Thanks Buddy!

Since everyone arrived before we had adequate light it gave us some time to talk some smack and catch up. While we were chatting a massive Raccoon stumbled towards the ramp and started to make it's way under the dock. Chuck was quite intrigued so he decided to approach the animal and with a condicending voice, says "hey little buddy." It's still dark and I think to myself this 30 pound wild animal may not be so amused...fortunately it continued to mind it's own business and vanished under the dock. A few minutes later and Mark though he spotted swamp thing in the water....from a distance I admit it looked like a larger specimen but shortly after we all realized it was a small little duckling. Although there were a couple close encounters, we didn't have an episode of "When animals attack" occur.

All five boats were finally in the water by 7:15am including Brendan's new Skeeter which is an awesome rig....congrats again bro! Now that we had light, it was time to go Lunker Hunting. I fished solo and explored for a bit before seeing some bait fish on one side of the river. I was throwing the jig and crankbaits without any action. I switched over to a white spinnerbait and was able to catch 2 small bass. A few minutes later and I threw a cast near some sticks in the water and burned the bait back in.....half way in and I saw a rip in the water so I paused for a second and then boom, a decent bass on. It would be my only keeper of the day! I threw everything out there too- jigs, swimbaits, cranks, spinnerbait, creature bait and even shiners.....jk guys, no live bait!

It was slow for everyone else too and with 5 boats and 8 anglers...we all combined for a solid limit lol! I had fun exploring the river and enjoyed being out on such a warm day. I headed back towards the launch and during a stretch on the water I felt like I was in the movie "Birds" as I went through a flock of around 100 seagulls, ducks, geese and swans!

1) Mark & Mitch- 5lbs (2) and lunker at over 3lbs
2)Chuck & Meat- 4lbs (2)
3) Jeff -2.5lbs (1) tied with Bobby & Chris- 2.5lbs (1)
4) Brendan - no keepers

Althought the fishing wasn't what we had all hoped for it was still great to get out with a cool group of guys! Hopefully we have one more in us before the ice!

10/7/2013

So today is a special day for my wife and I as it marks one year since we've been married. It's been a great year and I look forward to many more. I was blessed to have the morning and early afternoon to be out on the water as Jen returned to work today and I needed to do "something" to fill the day, so why not fish!

I brought four rod's- 3/16 ounce bitsy bug jig with a 3 inch chigger craw trailer, a 4-6 ft running golden shiner colored crankbait, the frog and a 1/8 ounce weighted creature bait. All of them got pretty consistent action through out the day and early afternoon. I probably boated 50 fish, mainly largemouth with some crappie, perch and the occassional sun fish mixed in. All of the big fish in the photo's came on either the jig or the crankbait. I missed a monster on the frog as I couldn't handle it through the slop on one side of the pond but I made up for it with a crankbait stopping Fog Hog at around 9:00am before the showers came through. The bass smashed it after only a couple cranks and I laid into the thing. A nice battle persued before I was able to net the big girl- 5.3lbs......I'll take it! Most of the fish seemed to hit the lures as soon as they entered the water or about 10-15 feet from the boat from slowing down the jig or pausing the cranker. Best five were around 20 pounds and it was nice way to fill the day.

Now it's time for some champagne and lobster- not a bad way to spend the rest of the night!

I went out with Chuck to a local pond on Saturday from 7:30am - 2:30pm for a nice full day of fishing. The weather was perfect...overcast with a slight breeze. Chuck started throwing popper's and frogs, while I threw a weighted worm. The worm bite was on for the first hour as I was able to land my big fish of the day. Chuck switched to the spinner bait and started putting numbers in the boat. We then frogged on top of the slime and lily pads and added another 20 or so fish. By noon time we put around 60 fish in the boat. I was the first to put on a jig and was catching small bass with some keepers mixed in every other cast for around 15 minutes until Chuck finally switched to one himself. Chuck started throwing out towards some rocks and that's when the big ones started to come in. He landed a couple hogs within a 30 minute period and I added a couple 3 pounders of my own. We easily put over 100 bass in the boat and my thumbs definately paid the price. Chuck's years of angling have allowed him to grow a tolerance for bass thumb due to his calices lol!

Our 5 biggest of the day were: Chuck 5lbs 11oz's, Chuck 4lbs 11 oz's, me 4lbs 10oz's, Chuck 4lbs 2oz's and me 3lbs 14oz's....a nice 23 pound limit! Thanks for joining me out on an awesome day of fishing!

Mixed Ponds
6/5/2013 - 6/7/2013

Hit up a few different ponds over the course of a couple days and enjoyed catching and netting some quality fish. During the trips I was able to fish with my Dad on Winthrop....we caught a few bass around 2 pounds and I lost one around 4 pounds right at the boat but the most worthy catch was my almost 1 lb bull frog caught on a soft belly frog. We got in 9 holes on the golf course as well which was our first time on the links in two years. I then fished with Chuck on a nearby pond and we had a head's up fish off resulting in Angler21 with 5 fish and Landlord with 4 fish...weight would have been close but we didn't have a scale and big fish honors went to Chuck. Last trip was with Mike and we had about a 20 fish day including his 4lber and my 2 foot Pick. All in all, a great time on the water with a grear group of characters.

Lake Boone
6/19/2013

My buddy Jon and I got out for a couple hours on Boone for some mid-week angling. We fished about half the time and shot-the-s*** the other half as we hadn't caught up in a while. We were both a couple small bass deep before he caught a bass around 2 1/2-3lbs on a rubber worm- a nice evening treat! Approximately 10 minutes later and I switched from the frog to a rubber worm and after a slow retrieve, a big fish (which I thought was a bass at first) was on the end of the line. The line moved to the left at a steady clip and two times during the reel in process the fish got hung up in lilly pads. As it got to about 10 feet from the boat I saw the water boil and then over 5 feet of line got ripped from the drag. I reeled in a few more turns and the same thing happened....I still thought it was a bass as there was no visual siting made at this point. It wasn't until about five feet from the boat and we realized it was a MONSTER pickerel! Jonny managed to get the beast in the net...I think it was the heaviest Pickerel I've ever caught but didn't have my scale to officially weigh it. It was between 26-27 inches long and my guess weighed in the 5 pound range!

We worked our way back home and I caught a couple more bass on the frog and worm. Overall a solid trip on the pond!

Local Pond
5/27/2013

Jen and I got out on a local pond around 2:30 today. We got back from NH last night (no fishing booooo), and after 5 hours of painting we decided to take a break and go to a scenic local nearby pond. The wind was tough for the first hour as there aren't really any coves here...just a big oval with grass, scattered pads and the occassional brush pile on the edges. I caught a couple small ones on the Live Target Frog before we shifted about half way back on the opposite side of the pond to escape the wind. I anchored up and about 5 minutes later after a deep cast in the long grass I found larry. She struck after about 10 feet of the retrieve and I snapped my rod back and was locked in! I knew it was a big one and asked Jen to get the net. I kept the rod tip down everytime I felt the fish come to the surface and once it was to the boat Jen got it on the second net attempt (Good thing or she would've went for a swim....JK). A nice healthy 5.7lb bass. About 10 minutes later about 100 feet up the shoreline and a fish that I think was better SMASHED the frog again, but after a few seconds it shook it free...damn! It was great to get out for a couple hours with Jen on such a nice day. We saw Chuck and talked smack for a few minutes before calling it a trip.

Pond in Metrowest
4/7/2013

Chuck and I had plans to fish a smaller pond in the Metrowest are on Sunday. We figured we would do half a day there and depending on the fishing maybe finish the day at Boone.

It didn't take long for Chuck to get things going on his 3/8 ounce spinner bait as he landing 3 bass in about 5 minutes. I switched from an 1/8 ounce jig to a golden shinner colored 3-5ft crank bait. During my next 6-8 casts I landed 4 bass, all around 10 inches but still great to get the juices going. Chuck landed a couple more in his next few casts and then I hooked up on the crank bait again on my next three casts and arrogantly said to him jokingly, "I'm so good it scares me." We talked s*** for a few more minutes at each other until he hooked up with the first big fish of the day...a nice football shaped bass, just under 4 lbs. We had a bunch of laughs and ended up catching over 80 fish. Chuck landed over 2 dozen on the spinner bait including a nice 3lb 13 oz Larry, he had a few on crank baits and a few on a jerkbait. The biggest surprise was that neither of us hooked on the jig. Chuck did have a monster strike that bent his rod in half but the big girl got off a few seconds after the set. I caught all but one of my 50 or so fish on the shallow running crank bait. Big fish of the day was 4 lbs 6 oz's and I added another good one that came in at 3 lbs 9 oz's. We stayed from 9:00am - 4:30pm at the small pond and for those that were out yesterday know that it was a windy and brisk day. I'm very glad we had the anchor! My hands still smell like fish despite having taken two showers since the outing! Great day out on the water Chuck!

I started a solo trip of angling around 1:30pm as I left my launch on this raw day. About 5 minutes into the trip and I realized that I needed gloves, a hat and neck warmer as I intended to be out for a few hours. I made my way back to my house and stocked up on all the essentials before heading back out. There were snow flurries in the air as I made my way to the cove where Chuck and I had recently landed a few solid bass. After an hour of being blown around by the brisk wind and only one small bass to show I decided to troll a distance to some coves that could potentially have some cover from the wind. I was rotating between a jig, weighted worm and 4-6 foot running tiger colored crankbait.

It was slow until I found my grove around 3pm with the crankbait in 4-6 feet of water. Every 20-30 minutes I was picking off bass in the 1-2 lb range. I shifted every 10 minutes looking for something different that may hold a pig...a stump, a rock or a patch of old weeds. That stategy treating me well as I held the rod tip high in the air and slowly cranked the bait with random pauses in the wind. It was around 5:00 pm when I decided to head a little bit further into one of the coves...beaver cove to be specific. There are a few submerged logs to the right in about 4-5 feet of water so I chose to anchor up for my last few casts as the wind picked up yet again. I landed around my 5th cast in the area near a 15 foot long log and soon after my crank bait came to a hault! After setting the rod back and reeling in a couple cycles I realized I was on to a big fish as my medium action rod tip started to shake. I kept the pressure tight and saw the fat ass bass surface around 20 feet from the boat. I told myself to stay and composed and 15 seconds later it was net time!!!! I let out a monster whoooooo and to my surprise a guy named Chris witnessed the whole thing from his deck a few hundred feet away. I towed Larry Chris's shore and he snapped a few photo's to document the catch. The bass weighed in at 5lbs 13 ounces and was over 21 inches long with a nice gut! What a way to start the open water season! I'm absolutely stoked from cranking in 5 bass and a beast in these conditions. The Landlord and I will be back at it on the 7th so be warned of more slobs to come.

Today I had plans to go out with Jon, Brian and Dave Burrows on a secret pond close to my house. I had only fished Boone this ice season so I was pumped when we decided to try a different pond close by. I had hopes of catching a boat load of bass with the occasional fish being a few pounds. or better

We got to the pond around 8:00am and the edges had crap for ice....we had to get crafty to get out far enough to be on the solid 8-10 inches of ice. The burrows bros have a sick ice tent that we set up and after another 20 minutes we had set around 12 traps up. The action was slow for the first hour and we were considering a major shift when I got out of the tent and saw our first flag. When I got there almost half the spool was peeled off and I began the first retrieve of the day. During the reel in process I saw a lay down trap go off and yelled flag! As I was fighting a big fish in Jon was working on the other and within 2 mintues of eachother we had 2 fish throught the ice and over 8 pounds of bass caught! What a way to start the day.

The action slowed down again until we caught a couple two pounders. More time passed and although it was a slow day it was a quality day of bass. I was shooting the s*** with Dave Burrows when we saw a flag around 50 feet away fling up. By the time we got there the line was spooled and he had a nice battle ahead of him. After around 60 feet of braid he pulls through another Ice Pig ...the biggest Ice Bass of his life. What an awesome way to end the day! We only caught 6 Bass and had probably a total of 10 flags but it was well worth the commitment! Thanks for a great day guys!

I had the pleasure of heading out on Boone for the majority of the day on Saturday with Chuck and Andy. We headed to the cove as the snow stopped falling and had high expectations for the day. We set about 12 traps up and there was no action for the first 20 minutes. We started playing golf on the ice, with a sandwedge and a few golf balls.....I thought to myself, Tiger who? Shortly after that the action got steady. We were pulling flags about every 10 minutes for the next 4 hours. The biggest bass of the day came from Andy as he caught a 3 1/4 and 3 lber. Chuck and I each added a couple 2 pounders and Chuck also had a nice Picky. The day resulted in around 20 fish and 30 flags, and ofcourse a bunch of laughs!

I had today off from work and so did Jon and his neighbor Dan so we chatted yesterday and decided to plan the trip. I had about a doz and half of left over shiners from Saturday and JB picked up about 2 and !/2 dozen more...good thing because we ended up using them all.

We started around 7:45am at the cove about a quarter of a mile to the right of the launch. We had a power auger and hand chipper so by 8:15 we had all 15 traps set-up. During the process around 8:00am the 3rd trap I put in went off and when I got to the hole the line wasn't moving much. Once I gave it a bit of tension the line darted to the other side of the hole and a few seconds later I had a good one on. After about 25 feet of line in and I see a big mouth come at the hole and yell Monster! I got it through the hole and couldn't believe the first fish of the day was a slob. Before I released the fish another flag went up and then a minute later a 3rd flag went up. That's pretty much how the day went, easily 30 fish landed and probably another 15 flags that were either robbed or missed. We each caught a bunch of bass and pickerel. We also had 2 perch and 2 crappie make an appearence. They left around 2:30 after a ridiculas day of catching fish. I stayed on the ice for a couple more hours and caught 5 more fish including a 23 inch Mr. Picky! The day ended and I thought to myself what a day. Great company and a ton of fish!

Although my post is tardy, the memories are still fresh in mind. I had the pleasure of getting out Sunday the 6th with Napa, the Burrows Bro's (Slobs R Us), Alessi, Gentile and the Legendary Landlord (Chuck). We met up bright and early at my house and headed to our first spot by 7:45am. I set 2 traps while I was waiting for the crew to arrive and on the walk to a big cove I caught my 1st fish of the year...a little crappie. We set up shop on the outer edge of the cove, including the Burrow's new tent and although we really didn't need it that day, it will certainly come in handy on cold, windy days in the future! We peppered the area with around 20 traps, loaded with L & XL shiners. It didn't take long to get action as we landed around 10 fish in the first 2 hours. A nice variety of largemouth bass and a few pickerel made their way through the ice. The action slowed down around 11:00am and that's when we decided to make a half mile shift to the narrows. By 11:45am we were at it again and after Chuck's second fish to the new spot he informed me that he had already caught his limit....quite arrogant yet true! We continued to have a blast for the next 3 hours...trading off turns to sprint after flags. There were no giants landed but it was a great day with a great group of guys! We landed around 25 fish in total and some of us enjoyed some nice whiskey on the ice to celebrate through out the day. I'm looking forward to getting out there again soon and thanks for everyone making an effort to get out there!

I was able to get out for another 6 hour solo outing on the 9th and enjoyed another 15-20 fish day, nothing over 2 pounds but i'll always take an active day on the lake. The Big Bass will be making an appearance on the Wall of Fame on the next outing...I'm sure of it!!!!

Napa and I had a half day to be on the water so we took full advantage and met up at 7:45 am near the launch. I was going into the day thinking that we would produce a sh*tload of bass throughout the trip. We were throwing 1/8 ounce jigs with chigger craw trailers, spinnerbaits and shallow running crankbaits. Napa led the way for most of the day as he hooked up with 3 bass in the first hour. The wind was acting peculiar so we shifted around a bit without any action except for some massive swans that acted hard for a brief period of time! We worked our way around the cock fight as well as an island before we started casting out towards the middle. My jig got the hit of the day as I set the SOB and began the tug of war. On the way in the big boy swam into a patch of floating grass which made the end of the battle a bit more challenging. Napa was spot on with the net when I got it close to the boat and the rest was history. We weighed her before the release and she came in at a chunky 4lbs 10 oz's. Great to catch up with Napa and enjoy a nice warm day off of work on the water.

My Dad and I planned a trip earlier in the week to fish for a half of day on Saturday morning. We hadn't been out in a while together so the 38 degree 12 mph wind didn't bother us too much. He met me at my house around 7:30 am and by 8:15 we were throwing 1/8 ounce jigs with 3 inch chigger craw trailers. The first hour was slow but we still managed to catch 2 perch and 3 small bass. We moved around the pond to a new spot with slightly deeper water and started to get into the bite. About 8 more bass over the next hour but nothing over a pound and a half. We got close to the shore and the sun and wind made more of a presence so I started casting a 3/8 ounce white spinner bait. Literally first cast and bam....a solid smash which produced a 2.4lb bass and a great fight. I threw the same bait for another 10 minutes before I got another smash off a faller birch tree and was rewarded with a 3.2lb bass. We continued to drift with the wind and were catching small bass until my jig got taken by a big fish. The fish faught like crazy near the boat and I was happy when I lip locked the 4.4lb bass. We had a great time on the water and each caught over 10 fish which it that much more enjoyable. The light jig and spinner bait bite continue to be hot!

Lake Boone

Started out on Boone around 5:45 after I got out of work. I had froggin on my mind but stopped at a dock to pitch a senko on my way and was rewarded with a bass just under 3 pounds...nice way to start the day.

I got to a cove about 15 minutes later and started tossing a top water frog. I picked off a couple bass around a pound and a half off a few stumps. I continued further into the pads and landed two more bass of similar size. There were bass jumping just about everywhere and around 7pm I missed a big bass that smashed it in open water....after the 3rd jump she was off! It started getting dark and I decided to put the trolling motor on a slow gear and pepper the shore line with the frog on my way back. I got a nice bass just under 4 pounds after a frog skipped under an overhanging branch and a 2 pounder followed on the same technique about a hundred yards later. I took a few photos at the launch as I was close by and that capped a productive 2 hour outing on good old Boone!

Last night I got the green light to do a couple hours of night fishing on Boone. I was stoked, the weather was mint, almost no wind to contend with. I ended up on the water at 8pm and went to a series of docks about a mile from my house. It was slow the first hour as I only boated 2 bass, with the biggest being just over a pound. I shifted around during the next half hour and got a couple small striked but no hook ups. A party boat was basically stalking me until I shared some unpleasant words and my demand for them to back the "" up! Finally I had some seperation between us when I decided to stop at a point right off the Stow Police's property. It was probably my 3rd cast in with a big double jointed jitterbug when the lunker struck. Before the strike I heard a jump about a hundred feet from the boat and a second later is when I got mine. It only took me a few seconds to realize that it was a special fish. It took a few feet of drag at a time with ease. As most big night bass, this guy leaped a few times before it was close to the boat. It made it difficult for me to the net and all I remember during the struggle was gut on this Pig. Finally it was in the boat. I keep it hostage in the cooler until we got to the launch around 10:30pm. We did a quick photo shoot and weigh in. A beautiful 6 pound 2 ounce PIG made a great night on the water. Thank you Larry....see you again soon bud!

I had the pleasure of joining my buddy Sven- a retired Marine for an outing that was put together by the Wounded Warrior Program. It's a day for injured veterans to enjoy and get a dose of much deserved recognition and appreciation. He was able to bring a guest to the event and invited me to go along. I picked him up at 5:30am yesterday and we headed out.

The event was a deep sea morning trip at the Boston Yacht Club followed by lunch and some speeches and raffles. We were greeted by our volunteer/guide at 7:00am when we arrived to the club. He was ecstatic when he found out that both of us enjoyed fishing and assured us that he would put us on some good Stripers. Felix was his name and he lives in Marblehead and actually grew up there too- he knew every nook and cranny on the coast we fished. Our Captain for the day was Dave, he was a retired Veteran and currently is a lobsterman...what a solid guy!

Felix delivered as promised....we arrived at our first hole around 7:30am and it only took 5 minutes for me to hook up with my 1st of 4 Stripers on the day. My buddy Sven followed up with his first about 5 minutes later...what a start to the day. By 8:30 am we had boated 8 Stripers ranging between 30-36 inches. We took a voyage to an island a mile offshore to stock up on mackerel, which was our bait of choice. We caught about 8 of them and headed to another rock ledge where we trolled and ended up catching a couple more there. I lost one that literally snapped the barb off the 6/0 circle hook that the bait was on.........ohh well, I guess that's why the big ones usually get away.

We landed back on shore around noon where Felix cleaned 2 fish that we kept. As I'm watching him fillet the fish he tells me to grap the line attached to the dock and bring it up. It was one of his lobster traps...there was one keeper in it, I grabbed another line as instructed and there was another keeper lobster in there. He then had me grab a line for his secret keeper stash and gave us two more to enjoy later on that night.....what a guy!

We exchanged info after lunch and plan to meet up with him and Captain Dave in the future. It was an unbelievable day and I'm glad my buddy Sven enjoyed it! I'm not much of a saltwater angler but I gotta admit....bringing in Stripers on 20lb mono spinning gear is absolutely awesome!!!!!

Lake Boon, MA

So I woke up this morning around 6:00am with no intention to angle but when I looked out the window and saw what I consider to be ideal fishing conditions I was immediately set on launching at Boone. I whispered to my fiance (thanks Denny) that I was heading out for a couple hours and that I would wake her when I returned......not more than a second later and I caught an earful "I told you that you could fish on f'ing Tuesday this week" as both of us have the week off. Not sure how it matters as she was still sound asleep when I returned at 8:30am but none the less I headed staight for the boat.

I arrived at the cove around 6:30am where I recently caught a good one. I had a certain feeling of confidence/arrogance as I approached the cove. About 5 feet of water with the occassional pads, stumps and weeds on the bottom had me anxious to get my Kopper Bull Frog in the water. About 15 minutes into the session and I get an eruption. You know the subtle commotion a Monster Bass makes when it decides to lay into the frog......jk it's the opposite...a moment of fury and mayhem hit when Lawrence came to play. I set the fish a second after the strike and then the battle between Larry and I began. It was a really strong fish that was taking drag in between a couple awesome jumps. The fight pursued for about a minute and when I got it close to the boat it didn't dissapoint and it jumped one more time despite me doing all I could to keep the line down. Finally it was in the boat and I was exhausted! I took a couple photo's and then saw a guy with his two kids at a near by dock. I decided to bring the fish over so I could get a couple better photo's and weigh the fish. It was commical because the guy was holding his 2 year daughter in one arm and snapped a few photo's with the other. I remember thinking to myself if he accidentally dropped her in at least I have my frog rod nearby and would surely be able to rescue her lol. I weighed the bass before releasing her....she came in at 21 1/2 inches long and weighed 5lbs 10 oz's- HOG!!! I talked with him for a minute and his son, probably around 6 years old was very intrigued. I opened up the tackle box and handed him a snag proof frog to have....gave a 30 second lesson and set off to continue the trip. I caught 4 more bass over the next hour...one close to 3 pounds and the others were all between 1 1/2 to 2lbs. The morning was just what I was hoping for and on my way home I prepared myself for a few comments from the sweetie....she didn't dissappoint either hahahaha.....I actually learned a few new words!
