Looking to start September on the right foot, I meet up with Vinny after work at about 6:30pm at one of the very few secret spots we have. Fished till about 8pm. Calm, hot evening with consistent action. Vinny had about 8 Largemouth I think, biggest at about 1-1/2lbs. I finished up with 4 Largemouth, biggest being 1-3/4lbs. Then the mosquitos come out...good night!!!
Quick 25 minutes before dark, and the action was on. There was a little bit of current tonight. Started with a senko, and got alot of hits but only one hook up with an 11" Smallie. Switched the Rooster Tail. And pulled 2 Yellow Perch, and 3 More Smallies with the biggest coming in at 12" 10oz.
Had the pleasure again of teaming up with Bam for this tourney. Scorcher of a day, with some wind on the main lake. We plugged away all day, finding alot of fish, but also alot of nonkeepers. We both finished up with 2 keepers a piece never finding that 5th keeper to fill the limit, but it wasnt from lack of effort. Our final tally was 4 fish @ 4lbs 13oz(Bam had a 3/4lb Smallie, 1lb Largie, I had a 3/4 Smallie, and a 2lb 3oz Largemouth) putting us tied for 5th place, and 1oz out of the money, dohhh. Nice job everyone! Thank you Bam for having me aboard. And once again congrats to Chuck, and Mark, you guys are top notch!!!
Took a 8 hour Cod/Haddock charter with Captain's Fishing Parties out of Newburyport, MA. Joining me was my girlfriend, Vinny and Chad. They took us out to Jeffries Ledge, around and back. Bait used was the clams supplied by the boat, fishing in anywhere from 260' to 175'. Beautiful day, very sunny, 1-2ft seas. Fishing was slow overall, but the 4 of us did ok. Vinny won the "Biggest Fish Pool" with a 30lb White Hake. Monster of a fish with a big, fat belly. My girl did well landing 5 fish (2 Cod, 2 Cusk, and 1 Haddock), I ended up with only two fish, my 1st and 2nd ever cusk. 1st one (not pictured) with about 25", 2nd one was about 20". Can you say Fish Chowder later this week? Bonus to the trip was seeing a 15ft Blue Shark come up beside the boat, and also seeing a couple Whales surface. Good times!!!
Well I was not going to fishing, but I thought to myself on the way home from work "With all this volatile weather the last couple days, the fish could be on fire". So I suited up with the rain jacket and braved the crappy weather. Grabbed a rod with a Rooster Tail on it and started chucking. 2nd cast, 11-3/4" Smallmouth. A couple minutes later, 10" Smallmouth. 5 minutes later, 13" 1lb Smallmouth. A couple minutes later, 8" Smallmouth. A couple minutes later I broke off one that felt just as good, if not better than the 1lber. I was about to take off, but I tied on another Rooster Tail for the hell of it. 5 minutes later, 12-1/2" 14oz Smallmouth. A couple minutes after, 11" Smallmouth. All in all, I lasted about 40 minutes and hauled in 6 Smallies, love it!
I got in about an hour after work tonight, also got to meet new comer to the site Mario aka "Bassterrorist" and his wife Renee. Great to meet you guys Im sure Ill see you around. Calm night overall. Broke off a decent Smallie on a senko, and lost 2 other smaller ones on a Rooster Tail. Finished the night with a 6" Yellow Perch, and 2 Smallmouth with the biggest being 1lb.
Fished with new friend Brandon, aka BAM today. Thank you for letting my fish with you. We found that the bite was on early, but after the wind shift at about 11am it was like ghost town. Brandon caught 3 of our 4 fish. The one largemouth I caught was the big one of the 4 at about 1-1/2lbs. We both lost/broke a half a dozen fish each, easily could have added 5lbs to our total at weigh-in. Total weight 4lbs 13oz, minus the 1/2lb penalty for a dead fish gave us 4lbs 5oz and a 6th place finish. Good job everyone one, Congrats to the Landlords, and thanks Johnny for cooking for us!
Checked out 4 other places before I got to this spot. Dudley Pond in Wayland was the 1st stop(Brutally low water level), Heard Pond in Sudbury 2nd(Brutally low water level, worse than 2 weeks ago), College Pond in Weston 3rd(So choked out, I could almost walk across it), Charles River Waltham Boat Ramp (Brutally low water level, and it smelled horrible over there), and finally after wasting most of the night, I got to the Watertown boat ramp at about 7:45pm. Only had about 25mins till it was dark. Only threw a Rooster Tail cause thats the only thing that had worked for me here lately. 5th cast in I got my only bite of the night, which is the biggest Charles River Smallmouth Ive caught so far. A nice, healthy looking Sally coming in at 14-1/2" 1lb 3oz.
On a side note, Not that I what it, But we need it to rain...alot...our local waters are looking rough. It cant be good for the fish.
Well I gave it another shot tonight. The temp drop, the wind, and and dropping water level due to low tide did not help my cause. I got in about 2 hours tonight. I threw a tube, and only got a few nibbles, a weighted t-rigged ocho got nothing, Swimbait nothing, crankbait nothing, Buzzbait nothing, Senko nothing(to windy to be weightless), Rattletrap nothing. Of course I start throwing the Rooster Tail and caught 5 small fish, finished up with a 6" white, 2 6" Yellow Perch, a 7" Largemouth, and a 11-1/2in Smallmouth.
I didnt have much time, but I needed the 1/2 hour I got to relax a bit. Nice evening, a little windy at times. Started with a tube, but no takers. Switched to the Rooster Tail and the action was on, 10" Smallie, 12" 3/4lb Smallie, 8" Smallie, 5" White Perch, 6" Yellow Perch, and finished up with a 12" 10oz Smallie, plus I had 2 more Smallies shake the hook! I be back tommorow with my good gear to see if I can upgrade those Smallmouth.
