Dunn Pond Description

Dunn Pond is a small artificial pond-constructed by the W. P. A. It is now owned by the city of Gardner. It is easily accessible from Route 101. Area: 18 acres. Maximum depth: 5 feet. No boat livery. Dunn Pond, because of its accessibility, is heavily utilized by fishermen. The fish population in Dunn Pond is now in a healthy state. Growth appears to be rapid, and predators (pickerel) appear to be numerous enough to effectively control the panfish population. Brown bullheads and yellow perch should also provide some fishing this year. Dunn State Park This 119 acre park features a 20 acre pond, walking trails, swimming, fishing, picnicking, public programs, and play equipment. Private canoes and non-motorized boats are allowed on the pond. In the winter the trails are open for cross country skiing, ice skating is allowed on the pond and often there is a fire blazing in the visitors centers fireplace. All activities offered by the park are accessible to people with disabilities. Dunn State Park is located in the northern part of central Massachusetts. From east or west: Rte. 2 to exit 24 (Rte. 140 north), left at second light onto Rte. 101 south. Park will be on the left. From the South (ie from Worcester): take 190 North to Rte. 2 West. Follow East/West Directions above. You will find the best fishing in two locations, First on a Rickety old dock in the back of the lake across from the beach where you can pull out plenty of Crappie, and the second thru a hidden trail directly across the floating dock, casting towards the Dam. you'll know your there if you see a manhole.
