Years ago Fresh Pond had giant eels in it. I used to see them stretched out along the shore by their late night shore fihing captors when I would head down to do early AM shore fishing.

Bait I would say shiner or crawlers and maybe the deader the better.

That's crazy, nobody likes to catch eels. Their slimmy and they wrap around your arms when you grab them to remove the hooks. But have fun.

Every eel that I caught came on either a shiner or live worm just after dark around docks. I'm guessing that during the day they stay hidden or stay deep and move into the shallows at night to feed.

ha- i catched them in minnow traps in teh charles - by accident
was just a small sucker but they are strong and its a nitemare to get them on a hook

also don't forget

Eel blood is toxic to humans[18] and other mammals[19][20][21], but both cooking and the digestive process destroy the toxic protein. The toxin derived from eel blood serum was used by Charles Richet in his Nobel winning research which discovered anaphylaxis (by injecting it into dogs and observing the effect).
