Have you fished at Little Sandy Pond? Be the first to comment on this fishing spot.
This attractive, 23 acre pond has clear blue water, white sand beaches and virtually no aquatic vegetation other than some submerged, grass-like algae. The western side has been developed with cottages, but the eastern side, wooded in pines, retains its natural features. The water is very acidic. The pond is located about three miles north of the Bourne Bridge Rotary, and can be reached by taking Head of the Bay Road, then a right onto Bourne Road. It is the first pond on the right, and the informal access is just off Carters Bridge Road. Fish Populations: chain pickerel, yellow perch, brown bullhead, pumpkinseed and tessellated darter.
About the best this pond can offer the fisherman (based on the 1982 survey) is numerous yellow perch in the seven to eight inch range and plenty of brown bullheads eight to nine inches or larger. The high acidity may eventually result in the loss of some species; productivity and growth rates are unlikely to improve.
