NH & MA Angling

Jen and I headed up to NH for a couple days to stay at a boat house on Lake Winnepasauke. First time staying in a boat house- the water in the garage was crystal clear and despite the steady current in the channel we could easily see to the bottom at the end of the dock which must have been 10 feet deep. We brought our rods on the trip not expected to do much fishing, or least that's what Jen thought lol. The first day we took a canoe out to Lake Waukewan, a smaller body of water that I am quite familar with. We took some casts in a cove and had a couple small strikes but nothing in the boat. We decided to paddle to the other end of the large cove and that's when I locked onto the first fish of the trip- a nice pickeral in about 12 feet of water. We drifted further in and that's when Jen landed the Bass of the trip on her creature bait- a beautiful 4 1/2 pound largemouth. The water was so clear we could see the fish the last 20 feet of the retrieve and it put up a nice fight.

The next morning we look in the boat house and see a school of lunker bass, smallies and largies mixed in the pack in the (my guess) 3-6 lb range. Excited at what we saw we dropped in a few lines, I was working a small jig and was able to land a nice smallie around 3 lbs. After about 20 minutes of this I could tell Jen had enough so we put the rods away for the rest of the day. Again the next morning I walked out on the dock to see what the weather was like and as I looked in the water I saw a couple monster bass. I ran back in to get my rod that had the jig on it and dropped it in front of the fish, they didn't budge but instead just remained calm and stared at it. I was about to give up after a few minutes and out from the bottom of the dock another nice small mouth smashed the jig and bam, fish on the dock. Jen came out and took a couple pictures on her camera since mine had run out of battery. I switched to a small grub in an attempt to land small fish to use for bait, I was able to catch a rock bass and perch but both were a little too big to sacrifice. After our three days in NH we were able to catch 5 species of fish including some quality bass.

We came back home on the 14th and after we unpacked we decided to take the boat out for some afternoon fishing since the weather looked to be pretty good. In total we caught 5 more bass, the biggest I caught on a wacky worm after I pitched it to a stump- I bass came buzzing out from underneath and inhaled the worm. After a fun fight we got her in the boat- A nice 3lb 10oz fish to cap the day. Overall a nice break from work and I'm glad we were able to explore some different water.
