My friend and I caught a few shiners and headed out to the local golf course pond. We did not have much luck with shiners so we were forced to keep one over 8 inches. The pond we fished was pretty small and I didn't think any fish would eat it. i threw the shiner out there with my bait caster and waited patiently. No longer than 5 minutes later my bobber was popping at the top of the water. A few seconds later the bobber went straight under. I picked up my pole and gave whatever was at the end of my line some extra line to run with so it could swallow the massive shiner. I decided it was time to set the hook so i reeled up the slack and proceeded to set the hook. As i set the hook my rod snapped in half!!! I couldn't believe it...ive never seen anything like that before. I looked at my friend in dis belief. I called that the one that got away.

I went to a local golf course and threw out a KVD 2.5 sexy shad crank bait and caught my first bass of the season. It was about 50 degrees and the water must have been 40 degrees.

still no shiners but caught a little bass so not too bad. i am curious if shiners are always in a pond if carp occupy that pond.
