I've used smithwick deep diving suspending rogues in cold water - good suspending stickbait, stays down. Change line to adjust for depth. I, traditionally start out w/8 or 10 lb. flouro. but if I'm fishing skinnier water I use 12 to 14 lb. mono or braid to control depth. I'm a big fan of the CC Redfin due to it's appealing action on the stop. It floats but I use suspend strips to slow it down. Recently, due to the price, I've tried the BPS version & they've brought in some very nice bass, especially in cold water.

you can also carry a little spool of wire with you and wrap pieces around the hook shanks. u can add exactly the right amout of weight u want this way.

I have used broken bill jerkbait (then completely sand down the bill)doing drop shot and caught fish in the past.
