So yesterday I went to the pats training camp so when it ended I I went to bass pro shops as I was wondering the aisles I saw some lead free jigs I am not a jig fisherman but it was such a good deal I got 3600 tackle box and filled it with jigs and trailers and now I have a whole kit I built. The reason I'm writing this is to see if you guys could give me some pointers on when and were to throw jigs thanks guys

Throw jigs anytime and anywhere. They catch fish in all kinds of conditions. Be patient!!!!

There are a several different styles of bass jigs. Each one has a different head design, designed for how it's used. By far the most common is the Flipping or pitching jig. It usually has an "arkie" style head but not always. Sometimes it has a "stand up"head. It has a beefy hook, usually 4/0 or bigger and has a stout, firm weedguard. This jig excels in all types of wood cover, docks, trees and bushes. The stout weedguard keeps the jig from hanging up in the wood.
Another type of jig that has steadily become more popular is the football jig. Its head looks like a football stuck to the hook sideways. It usually has a different style hook as well. It looks more like an EWG hook. It is used for rocky or sandy bottoms and is usually fished in deeper water.

A 3rd style is a swim jig. It's head is more pointy or conical. It it used in and over weeds in a swimming motion, not dragged on the bottom or hopped like the football and pitching jigs.

i like finesse stand up jigs. medium wire hook but solid weed guard.

there are a lot of variations within the 3 types of jigs rich described. a lot more tungsten jigs are hitting the market now too. i don't like the line tie on most of them though.

Honestly, never had much success with jigs, even though everyone says they produce year round.

Ordered a few BOSS seducer jigs and a few other finesse jigs from Tackle Warehouse about a week ago, going to give them an honest shot, probably with a Reaction Innovations Smallie Beaver 3.50 trailer in green pumpkin.

Ive never caught a fish on a traditional jig but I throw shaky heads all the time that's the close to jigs I've ever really thrown

Jigs catch fish year round but in my opinion they shine in the spring. From ice out until spawn nothing puts quality fish in the boat like a jig. You might get more bites on reaction baits but the better quality fish can be had on a jig imo.
Find yourself a shallow ( under 10') bog pond with lots of shoreline cover. Hit it on that 1st warming trend after ice is out and HOLD ON!!!
