Fall Donkey At Boon
I went out tonight on a short trip on Boon solo style from 5pm-6:30pm. There was some wind to consider so I took what mother nature gave me and arrived to the cove with the least ripples in the water. I'm still persistent utlizing the frog as it has been my go to lure all year. I went the first 30 minutes without a strike and decided to shift further into the cove with a thicker cover of pads and stone wall on the shoreline.....the same area I saw a monster jump a week ago. My first cast in the new area landed on top of the wall and I gave it a tug to send it into the water- a second later and a swoosh of strike missed. I let it sit for about 5 seconds and hopped it over a couple feet of pads and as it hit an open pocket of water BINGO lunker on! I set the Donkey and the fight began. I always reel in hard and high when in the shallows and pads to keep the fish from getting tangled on the bottom. This badass faught hard and at one point there was a stand still as it got far enough down to lodge into some weeds. I decided to go for it and lifted staight up and felt the fish come free, roughly 15 seconds later and I lip locked larry! There is nothing like an attack on the frog- I had a big cooler on me and took it back to the ramp near my house and had Jen meet me to snap a couple photos. Mr. Donkey weighed in at 5 pounds 8 ounces and measured 21 inches.....a great way to end September and wecolme October for some more Fall Bass.
