My First Attempt Quest To Get My First Lake Trout! Fail Or Sucessful? Hmm.

I was invited by muskiebigfish's group that going to chu. I met Aem and badlarry at park lot. (I found out that muskiebigfish has other plan to go Quabbin instead come over here.) Anyway, we walked down at our spot. we was getting ready to set up our things. probably 15 minutes later, I got first hit and lost it! hook was pulled out. Cast next one, boom! got one! I was wicked exciting and hoping it was Laker. Fish come closer at every cranking that I reeled it. Soon enough, I recognized fish's skin color. It was definitely Laker! My first time to attempt to catch this fish. It was at 6am. After that, I knew we are off good start. Aem and I got several bites but lost them all. badlarry has one or two bites too. Wicked lot of adrenaline pumped into our vein when see rod twitching around!
At 7am, Bassinbroosky showed up, and we moved to other location due to stopped bites. Soon enough, we knew it was not good day! even though it was absolute nice day to be out there.
At 1030am, Aem and badlarry stopped fishing and left.
At 11am, Bassinbroosky and I walked/keep fishing toward back to our car. Has one or two bites but not strong enough to stay hooked. Then we drove to old church area to attempt to get anything that bites. We fished until 1245pm. I had to give up and go home due to errands. Anyway, it was nice to meet you guys! hopefully, we will do this again. I surely hope that I don't have to schooled you guys! haha

My rod was ten feet long with only 4 pound line. Surprised me big time that my line can manage to hold on 1 ounce sinker without breaking off. During battle, every cast, every time it gotten stuck in weeds. But I totally loved this set up!

p.s. both lakers that I did bring home, both lakers was male. No eggs inside of them.

  • Yeah, that's true. I tend to be adapt my method more often than what it is should be. But it is almost never fail on me lately. so, I think it is must be luck involved this.

  • always a good idea to switch things up when things aren't working sometimes tend to stick with something that is not working.I'm stubborn like that sometimes

  • lol well it was right place at right time in the right conditions. we were in a great spot with the wind blowing directly towards us so the planktons got blown our way which made the smelts follow and the lakers followed the smelts right to the shore we were fishing and having a big ol pike shiner struggling out there was like an open invite to a hungry laker looking for something to stand out of the crowd of smelts lol. havent cought a laker since hahaha

  • wow, I wish I have your opening day at Chu! Look forward to that day like this!

  • on opening day i got all my lakers on pike shiners with a 3 foot leader under a bobber lol. i was bottom fishing for about 45 minutes with no hits and decided to change it up so i threw on a bobber and quickly ran out of bait from all the lakers destroying my pike bait lol.

  • I've been thinking about going medium shiner and smaller weight I think that extra distance and make it easier to set hook.

  • Yeah, I was using medium shiners while I seen whole crowds using large or extra large shiners. and I was using light sinker as possible meanwhile cast that far. Maybe that might help you? only time will tell.

  • Well my leader was a little short but changed it later maybe to late.I've had plenty of bites there.Had one pull all the string off my real just have had trouble hooking them. Not used to the huge weights and fishing off bottom with live bait not my usual methods ha ha but I will get the hang of it.This old dog can be taught new tricks just takes him a little longer to master them. You very rarely get non stop action so you have to make your bites count and you certainly did that!

  • badlarry - yeah, I couldn't believed that you haven't get laker out of chu yet. But man, one day, laker will meet his fate on your hook! I used 2-3 feet long from hook to sinker. probably that is reason why I caught laker. But I can't really say it because it was my first time out there. plus, yeah, we need to get together again and fish there. It was fun though.

  • Yes we will def have to get together for another round of the chu!She has been kicking my ass!But lucky for you every first timer I meet gets there first Laker maybe I should just be a guide for the Chu surely hates me lol
