In a lot of my fishing endeavors I lean a little to the light side. I am putting together a new carp outfit and was curious if this was too light : baitrunner style reel - 200 yds. 10 lb. -6.6', rod 8-12 lb. 3/8-5/8 oz. I don't want something to overpower a 4 or 5 pound fish, but I'd like to be able to handle fish 10 lbs. plus. Am I way off base?

I like to go light also but I would get a much heavier rod than that for carp. If you get a big one your going to have trouble landing it. Carp put up a great fight.

Agreed with Dr

I use a 7' medium heavy rod with 20# mono. The first time I went out carping I used a setup for bass. The 5lb carp I caught absolutely ruined the reel and almost snapped the rod.

7-8 foot medium rod, spinning reel with bait runner (not necessary but nice to have), and 25 pound BRAIDED LINE.
