My brother is taking me to Moosehead Lake for a camping trip. Spencer Bay area. I am mostly a recreational fishermen out for bass, pickrel, perch, panfish. I've been reading up on the lake and it seems like bass are few and far between because they are not native to the lake. Seems like there are lake trout and land locked salmon mostly. Just wondering if anyone else has had this experience. I'm worried that my modest gear won't hold up to the bigger fish. Or am I just over thinking.
Thanks.

You'll need to fish DEEP. and the place is huge. I'd get a guide, from what I've heard the smallies are hard to fund up there for the reason you stated. Lakers and Salmon or the target species.

Try hitting some of the smaller lakes. I hit one up there and had the best smallie fishing of my life. Literally a 2-3lber on every cast caught em till we ran out of crawlers. Simple split shot n a crawler killed em. Was actually lookin for trout lol
