What effect does the herring running have on fishing the ponds, lakes and rivers? Does anyone have any insight or experience on this?

the bass will definitely set up where they funnel in.

Anyone see any herring yet? Are they going to be delayed with the cold winter?

Not yet, they are expected in May at some point at Mystics.

herring have been running south of cape &, cape for a month. U can try fishn ambush points along the herrings migration route up river from where they come into a particular body of water. The bigger bass are sitting waiting for the tired and wounded !! A big slug go or swim bait usually do the trick. Even the run in Middleboro at Oliver Mills has some big bass in that tiny area.

I checked the pembroke run a few days ago saw none running but did find a dead herring so some have made it to the south shore
