Beautiful skies and a decent breeze greeted our 13 boats as the 11th tourney of the UBFL season got under way at 1:00 PM this past Sunday in our annual Sunset Tourney on Lake Winthrop in Holliston.

Throwing out the first ceremonial Mojo rigged Senko this week was our long time UBFL contributor, competitor, and friend to all Ronnie "Badassbassman" Washburn. Ron has been fishing with us for years...mostly as a single. I'm sure we all know how that's a disadvantage in a two angler per boat field, but Ron works it well and manages to compete well in our tourneys. He also holds the UBFL bag record for a single fisherman in a UBFL tourney at 18lb 8oz's. Ronnie is also the innovator of the now famous and much admired "distraction pattern". Brilliant Badassbassman! Please keep up the good pattern and give all of our best to fineassbasswoman! Thanks for everything Ronnie!

Lake Winthrop giveth and it taketh away. Most of our field have been fishing this water for years and know it well. The fishing can be amazing......and it can be horrible. Its a very tricky lake most of the time and tough at times to pattern the fish. The lake is loaded with big bass but they’re finicky and have lots of places to hide. The bite was tough for all on Sunday due to the sun, lack of sun, wind, barometric pressure, due point, water temperature, fishing pressure, two pissed off girlfriends, and one guy reportedly fishing without a hook on his jig...:-/.... as 7 of our 13 boat field released their catch and reported NCB ...(Non Competitive bags). This week’s crowd threw everything in the box with the majority of fisherman eventually glued to the bottom around the structure drops with worms begging for a decent bite. 12-15 inch bass (or smaller) was the rule for the day and even during the prime of sunset fishing as well. No lack of fish on the structure scan though...just not biting well. There was a decent Chatterbait bite out deep but evidently the fisherman in question ...:-/....had his pole up his ass and failed to capitalize on decent hookups..:-O.

This week..........Bringing home "The Belt” for the first time in their UBFL career was Team "Bite Me"........with a winning bag of 14 lbs 2oz. The excellent father/ son fishing team of Marc "Doc" Degrenier and his prodigal prodigy Mitch "MVD" Degrenier have been fishing together since Doc used the contents of Mitch's diapers for bait. The Fisherman are tough team who always competes for scratch due to their experience fishing together. The pair of pond pig prowlers worked a smaller section of the lake adjoining deep water all day and managed to coax a bag of into the net. No Surprise here....not the first time the DNA duo have taken home UBFL scratch. A podium finish is not a new event for them and I'm sure we all agree that this win was only a matter of time. They are enjoying a dec$ent year having also taken home top scratch in lunker tourneys as well. Good job guys and thanks for being a part of all we do!

Second place scratch this week (in a tiebreaker) were the smoking hot tourney tested Team BassBangers. Tony 'Bassmaster" Rosarioooooooo and Donny "Big Fish" Capen. The international team covered every inch of the lake with a full arsenal of lures and managed to bring in a bag of 11lbs 3 oz. As is the recent norm....the team managed to find at least one big fish to propel their weight into the money......... definitely a strong team of great fisherman. Their bag was anchored by the Big fish of the tourney. A healthy bullfrog eating beauty with nice long fins that topped out at 5.0 even. That is the fifth tourney in a row (ours and others) that the team has brought in the Big Bass. This fish was taken on a BAF (big ass frog) that Donny "Big fish" Capen let sit in the weeds forever as he enjoyed his lunch....go figure. Hope you didn't spill your wine cooler or drop your liver pate when he hit the frog big fish! Great day guys!

It might have been the only fish taken out of the pads all day....no kidding!

Of course in tough conditions you can count on the team "Boys From Bedrock" to be in the mix. Mike "Fred" Wells and Jeff "Barney" Portela drifted the lake throwing the ultra finesse stuff and it paid off for them with a third place finish this week and a bit of scratch to help fund their purchase of 12 inch slammers. Of course bagging their biggest fish of the day in the last minute of fishing in front of everyone helped the cause a lot. Another strong finish for the Boys...Congrats

Our next tourney is Next Sunday at Norton Reservoir and is an open event. Everyone is invited to compete...no restrictions on boat size...... as long as your under electric power only. 6-2

Tight lines ....Rob
