I've been using a Sargus 4000 but it doesn't hold enough line for me to wade out, cast, and then return to shore. If a big fish hits and runs it'll strip to the backing in no time. Can somebody recommend a reel that can hold more line, but doesn't weigh too much more so that I can keep the balance? Thanks

You might post this question to the StripersOnline forum. It's a huge community with a ton of guys who surf cast.

I've got a Shimano Baitrunner 8000d on a 10' Ron Arra Lamiglas... I thought it wouldn't hold enough line, but it's been working great for me so far...

You obviously need a 5,000 size with 40 pound braid and only
10 wraps of backing for spool gripper. Does that work? I’m assuming.
