the Palmer river, seekonk ma

went to the palmer and dropped in off rt 6 in seekonk .. started working my way in to more freshwater ... being that is it brackish water... ended up in apparently much saltier water than expected being that we caught many schoolies and skipjack... good day ... would have liked to venture far enough to catch some freshwater river monster.

First time in my waders...

It was just after 7 o clock when Seps pulled in the parking lot.  I had gotten there early, so I had already packed a small tackle bag, nothing but the essentials.  I brought a couple hooks, a shallow diving crank bait, and some extra worms.  Seps had brought a backpack, also filled to the gills with his fishing arsenal.  For a slightly impromptu fishing trip we were more than prepared. Eager to fish, we both started suiting up in the parking lot.  We grab the supplies and our rods and marched to the pond.  I approached and slowly headed into the water.  Being it was my first time, I was hesitant to go in.  Seps, being my teacher of sorts, practically jumped right in.

But what a rush!  It was awesome, the second you get in, you can feel the chill take over.  The pressure of the water weighing down on every part of your body.  Once I was one with the pond, I went in as far as my chest.   For the first time this season we put on the waders and it opens up a whole new world of fishing. They didn't even know we were coming, like I said, we were one with the pond.  I nailed three fair fish by the end of the sunset.  As far as we were concerned it was a successful little vacation.  As we called it a night, all I could do was look over the water, not a single ripple in sight, it was as smooth as glass.  But just as we're leaving the pond, a fish breaks the reflecting the purple sky on the water, just taunting us to come back..

Nabbing a monster while wading....

So it starts off being a long, slow day at work. The entire time thinking about my plans to go fishing in our waders with a few buddies. By the time I'm wrapping up my last client, it starts to POUR. Im talkin lightning, building shaking booms of thunder, the whole nine. It seemed as though as soon as it hit my phone starts going nuts ... texts like "hey man i dont feel like dying in a lightning storm while fishing tonight..." (without sounding too crazy, i feel like that may be how i gotta go... ? ) haha... I still end up rounding up one soldier to come with me. We ended up not even bringin the waders, i went out in a pair of shorts and flip flops, yes, flip flops.  With a handful of plastics in my pocket, I waded in the water of a decent sized pond behind my work. It was like bath water! Probably over 80 degress. I have gone there countless times and always had decent fishing the deeper water but i figured why the hell not go for it. As Im going in i feel something come across my leg. I didnt think much of it.. but as im standing there, I feel it again.  This time I started slowly backing out of the water. A MONSTER snapping turtle follows me in. He was looking at my toes like a steak tip dinner.  This dude was bigger than my laptop. Unfortunately me hillbilly handfishing this snapper was the only lunker i caught today. And then came the rain...
