My biggest Largemouth ever

After the Smallmouth bonanza at Manchester on Sunday June 24th, two of my friends and I decided to head out to Jacobs in Norwell, after resting up a bit. We headed to Charlie's Bait and Tackle Shop in Hanover got 2 dozen shiners and drove out to Jacobs. We started fishing the dock first, to no avail (per usual) as it usually pretty quiet. Mostly just panfish and the occassional Pickerel. So we decided to head over to the rocky shoreline on the road. We casted out, and waited about 20-30 minutes before the first bites starting coming in. 2 Pickerel at around 445pm, 2 Largemouth shortly after (around 10 minutes). Then it started to slow a bit, and we waited until around quarter to 6 before we pulled in 3 more Largemouth, one of them by hand. My friend had birds nested his reel; cut the line, and was using the cut line with the fishing hook still on it for kicks and giggles. He actually managed to land a small 1lb'er. Lol funny stuff. At around 6:30pm I baited a fresh lively shiner, and casted out around 12 yards to the left of the shoreline next to the cement drainage block; where the water runs under the road to the river on the other side of route 123. It wasn't more than 30 seconds when my shiner started darting everywhere at the surface, zig zagging back and forth for a good 20 seconds. Then I saw it, a huge greenish-black mass and a tail fin break the water. My bobber was gone and my rod tip was bent completely over. Man oh man, what a fight it was like trying to reel in a tire that was fighting back. My line on the Shimano Zacura reel I was using was making that distinctive twang like it was going to snap, even after multiple drag adjustments while reeling the fish in. As I got the fish within 5-6 yards of the shoreline, he made a b-line to the left towards the overhanging branches that extended into the water next to the drainage. I broke into a cold sweat as I thought I was going to lose the fish in the branches. I muscled him as tough as I could without snapping my line. I landed him! I went to lip him, and he was thrashing like none other, got me soaked! Tongue out I pulled him out of the water, and felt the weight of that bad Larry and got so excited I was like a kid in a candy store haha. I think my friends were pretty ticked though lol, they had that look on their face like a combination of Amazement and "You asshole" to themselves lol! Oh well, their good sports. I took plenty of pictures, and let the Mammoth fish go on his way. He gave me quite a lickin' on my thumb though. Good ole' bass thumb! :P

Skunk day Sunday? Or so we thought.

Woke up around 9am today, June 24th. Getting ready to head out to Manchester Pond Resevoir in Attleboro; Bristol County with some friends. A place we had fished 3 times before, and completely skunked all 3 times. So we were quite weary about today, but we decided to switch it up a bit and fish Silver Shiners instead of lures like we usually do. We get there at around 1030am, bait up and let em' rip. We were fishing the Southwest side on the Rocky man made Dam, water visibility was great. You could see 10 feet down easily. We sat there watching our shiners swim around in circles for about an hour, and things were looking grim in our opinion. Looked like skunk city once again! We sat there for another 20-30 minutes; nothing! A friend of mine I was fishing with Dave; his brother Andy who lives in Attleboro called to ask us how we were doing and that he was going to come meet up with us. Dave exclaimed we were on the verge of skunking again, as I was reeling in my shiner to give it another further cast out. As Dave was exclaiming and I was reeling, I saw my shiner dart to the right and a big brown flash come up from the bottom from behind a small boulder. BOOM, fish on! I set the hook and the fish jumped clear out of the water 2-3 times, it was a beautiful Smallmouth! I reeled him in took a few pics, and set him free, he took off just as fast as he slammed my shiner. Shortly after that Dave hooked up on a nice pound and a half Smallie himself. Andy showed up about 20 minutes later and we started hitting fish left and right. 5 nice size, beautiful, healthy looking Smallmouth between the 4 of us fishing, and three beautiful Largemouth. All within the 2-4 pound range. So much for skunking eh?! The fishing started to wind down around 130-2pm so we decided to call it a day at Manchester and head home. Check out my pics of the newly added (By me haha) Manchester Pond Resevoir location here on MAFishfinder! All the pics are posted by me, and of this said fishing outting!
