The Skinny on the Watercraft Ban at Pleasant Street Dam Canton Res
Anyone who fishes the Canton Res regular knows by now that there is a watercraft launching ban from Pleasant Street in effect as of June 1st, in conjunction with a parking along Pleasant Street as well. Seems the town doesn't want people parallel parking along the Pleasant Street dam because it interferes with pedestrian traffic, supposedly. The town now wants fishermen to park in the two nearrby lots, one on either side of the street, and then walk over.If this is REALLY all about pedestrian safetly, then what is the watercraft ban all about? What's that got to do with anything? There is a pull-off with enough room for people to get their cars/trucks completely off the road and out of the way of pedestrians. People could off load their watercrafts and then go park their cars in one of the lots. Same for the pickup. The point is, in my opinion, the watercraft ban is IRRELEVANT to pedestrian safetey! The watercraft ban is nothing more than pork legislation attached to the town's attempt to idiot-proof something. Is that blunt enough? The Pleasant Street Dam is the public's only real easy access to the Res. All other shoreline is private propertly. Which brings me to my next point. Apparently, merely owning waterfront property on the Res isn't good enough for Canton yuppies. Now it appears they want the entire Res for themselves, which is what this watercraft ban is 'really' about, again, in my opinion. So, what to do. Do I say "screw it", as there are plenty of other great bodies of water to kayak and fish in. . . or do I "stick it" to the continued "yuppification" of Canton and get back in there someday. To be continued. . .

NEVER been a fan of Frogs - until now!

So the aholes in Canton decide to close the ONLY conveniant launching area for watercrafts to the Rez (another issue for another time),but it's pretty much the reason I was at Ames-Long Pond, and THAT was pretty much the reason I was using frogs.

The other night I was fishing a patch of lilly pads out on Ames-Long Pond with a Frog lure when I caught my personal best 19", 5lb LM Bass!

I am a true fan of fishing with frogs in the lily pads from the kayak!

Fortunately, there's no shortage of waters with lily pad patches, which of course means BASS!

Screw Canton, screw the Rez. I'm only going to get back out there, someday, just for SPITE!

Fish on 2014!
It's FISH ON 2014!And this year, I've broken into Kayak-Angling! Took it out on the Canton Reservoir for the first time on April 24th and caught an 18" Pickerel. Took it out again the next day, depsite the weather and caught an 8" Yellow Perch.Still, was was FREAKING COLD out on the water, so, as much fun as it was being out on the water, I don't think I'll be taking the kayak out again until the air-temp is in the 70s. Once it is, there's no getting me off the water! One thing I like about my new kayak, the Future Beach Trophy 126, plenty of "opportunity" for mods! Therefore, I'll be working on those for the time being.I'll probably do most of my kayaking in the Canton Rez, but other places I plan on using it is Ames-Long pond - Stoughton, Pongkapoag Pong - Canton, Charles River - Needham, possibly Cutler Lake - Needham. And where ever else as the opportunity arises, of course! 5/1

What a strage fishing season this has been. . . .
I've been fishing since I was a teenager. I fished regularly when I was younger, and then only on occassion as I got older. Last year, I was bitten by the fishing bug and did more fishing in four months than I did in the last 20 years combined.Along with 50-dozen sunfish - which I do like catching, by the way - I caught my first (three) brown bullhead catfish, and instantly became a fan of catfishing! I also caught my first two "big" bass - a 14" caught in a pond in Canton and a 13" caught in the Charles River along the Dedham/Needham line! With August coming to a close, I was thinking how summer was passing me by without having (yet?) caught that lunler bass. I'm still happy because there's been so many other "firsts". I've caught several perch at White Bridge in Walpole! That's new. Before this year, I hadn't caught perch before!Earlier this week, my son and I caught my (our) first Calico Bass / Black Crappie at the Canton Rex. Back in May, the same spot yielded my first Massachusetts Pickerel. Depending on how you look at it, it might even be my very first. The "other" first was a picker I (nearly) caught up in Maine several years ago. It followed my lure all the way to the dock, so I did a "figure 8" motion with it until the picker went for it. I pulled it out of the water but it fell off the hook, onto the dock and wiggled it's way back to the water before I could grab it.That's been mt Spring/Summer fishing for 2013 up to now. I would have probably blogged sooner and, thus, shorter, if only I had noticed that I could blog about fishing here!I will finish by stating that this cooler-than-average weather has me looking forward to autumn TROUT fishing! The last time I did trout fishing was in 1988, on a trip out west to Wyoming! That was a blast. I can only hope the trout out East are as "easy" as they were out West.
