Fishing is fun again.

04/19/2014 1PM

Fishing is fun again, ie, first catch of the season. 3 large mouth bass, a fish that is new to me. they avraged about 12" long. maybe 1 to 1.5 lbs. i caught them on a 4" berkley power bait worm with pink and purple colors with a small weight that was free to move. a lure i have had the most luck on. Texas rigged. deep and slow. Cast, let it settle and them twitch and drag it across the bottom. i guess the twitching mades it jump and then it is bitten on the way down,

the location was good as well. i really thought about it. the main river looks good. and im sure i could have caught something. but the water is cold, the sun was bright, the wind was strong, and it prespawn season, or at least it will be. so deep water, near cover. like under a bridge in a lagoon off the main river. thats warmer water. sheltered and deep with a rocky bottom.

anyway, a caught a fish. Smile

I will be going to the charles again next time im out. only this time i will leave the ultra light at home and bring another med action 6' again and try out my bait caster reel. now there is a learning curve.

Noel.

Winthrop Beach

04/12/2014 1PM

I tried Winthrop beach for the first time today, i know it is early but i wanted to try out my new rod. an 8' Tiki Surge and it was a nice day for the beach.

I stopped by Bobs Bait Shack. no sea worms till the 15th but he did have a couple of huge macks and a shop full of new stuff.

the rod is great, i can fire what ever i have hanging off the end of the line way out into the great blue. but i learnt that it is also a great way to loose a lot of line really fast when it gets hung up on something. i lost at least 3/4 of the spool.

I tried mack chunks and artificial lures on a fish finder rig and a bob rig. but with no luck, not even a crab and lost a lot of tackle.

I think while it is spawning season i will focus on the charles until the water warms a little.

Too early or all dead

04/05/2014,

Fishing at the Charles River esplanarde, out side the boat club. it was blowing a gale,

over the winter i bought a bunch of new stuff after reading everything i could on the internet, this year i will be trying to catch anything with a carolina, texas rig, spinner bait and jigs, sounds pretty normal but it is something i have not tried,

Quick back story, I just moved to boston from new hampshire, surrounded by lakes and rivers i decided to pick a fishing rod and give it ago, i loved it, but the only time i ever caught anything with any cossistancy was with a worm and bobber. my best being a 2.5lb horned pout. which i later found out was a very good size, anyway, a 3 min drive and i could be at one of 3 boat lauches on 2 diffrent rivers. 10 min drive and im at a lake, 20 min drive and im on the coast. talk about spoiled, 45 min drive and im at lake winnipasakee, so i move to boston and im limited to say the least.

So my time at the water has to be productive, with only a limited time before im getting called home. but, i caught nothing, but still after a long winter im sure you will all agree it is good to be back out and fishing.

My next time out i will be giving the new saltwater stuff a try down at winthrop beach. please dont laugh if you see a guy stuggling it will be my first time surf fishing.

Ill let you know what happens.

Noel
