surf fishing, a bust

So I went surf fishing off the shore of Plum Island. Was there for about 3 hours, right as low tide was coming in. We caught a whole lot of nothing! No one around us caught anything. We were using clams and mackerel. Whole lot of nothing. It was a nice night though, good sunset, lots of stars, no moon though.

I've created a monster!

Yeah, so my son and i have been only fishing for about a week now, I got my MA license last weekend. We've fished about 4 or 5 different times, but today, we fished 4 different times, today alone. He's so funny.

So we started off at Silver Lake in Wilmington. Great pond for him, can see the sunfish off the pier and he catches a lot of them. I can't seem to catch much there. But he enjoys it. Then it's off to lunch. Promptly afterwards he wants to keep fishing.

Now the clouds have rolled in, and by the time we get to Ipswich River Park in North Reading to fish the Ipswich River, it starts to drizzel. Normally he isn't a big fan of the rain, but he wanted to go. We fished for about 20 minutes, but got nothing, not even a nibble on worms. The rain picked up and I said we had to go.

But he wasn't done, oh no. He kept asking to fish, so onto Martin's Pond in North Reading. Off the shore on the beach, he catches to large sunfish, I get weeds. Darker clouds roll in, sound of thunder in the distance, and we pack up and head home. On the way home, the rain picks up a lot.

As I pull into the driveway, he says, I want to fish. I said it's raining and there's thunder and lightening (of which he is not a fan). He was persistant so off to Harold Parker State Forest in Andover/North Reading. We both get lots of bites but nothing would hook. We we under some trees so the rain wasn't bad. Then there was some lightening and its paired thunder. Suprising enough he wanted to stay and keep fishing. I was amazed. Then the big one cracked above us, thunder that makes you jump. Then "daddy, i'm all done, go home now".

We arrive home and he wants to fish more! At this point, it's dark out, dinner time, and company coming over. I calm him down, I think we're going tomorrow ;). So I think I created a monster, and I love it. I love fishing in the rain, and apparently he doesn't mind either. Saweet!

Lunch fishing

So I am at a client site in Maynard, MA about 2 to 3 times a week, until the end of August. Today I went searching for a fishing hole to take my lunch breaks at. I think I may have found one, but I'm not sure yet. It's a river that goes through the middle of down town, not sure what river. I don't know what kind of public access there is at the point I was looking, here's hoping.

New to freshwater

So, I've been fishing saltwater, off shore, for a long time. I've enjoyed it immensly though my prizes are slim, it's quite enjoyable. Recently I had the opportunity to join a friend and his son, along with my 4 year old, to go fishing in a friends stocked man-made pond (small mouth bass). It was a blast. I really enjoyed it, as I thought I would. My son caught about a dozen fish. And that started the "daddy, i want a fishing rod".

We got him a fishing rod, and of course dad needs one ;), so we went freshwater fishing last weekend for the first time. We went to Silver Lake in Wilmington, MA. Nice little pond, with a fishing pier. My son caught about 10 fish, all sunfish, and I caught 2 sunfish. A friend of mine caught nothing (sorry Dan!). A good evening for us.

A few days later we went to Bear Brook State Park in Allenstown, NH. My son caught two 4 inchers, i think they were perch, not sure. I'll get a photo up soon. I caught a whole lot of nothing.

So with that, I begin my and my son's adventures into freshwater fishing. Now I need to figure out what the heck all of these lures are and what species they're best for!

Thanks for the read.
