Lake Monster

I had plans to go to the Vineyard from Friday to Sunday with my girlfriend so I knew I had to get my fish fix on the night before. I started the trip arounf 6:30 pm and fished solo on Maspenock in the Old Town Canoe. The weather was great- sunny with minimal wind. I worked some rubber worms for the first hour and caught a couple one pound bass. I decided to move to one of my favorite coves for a little while. I switched to a new rapala swimmer that I had just purchased and caught a solid 21 inch pickerel with a nice belly- just under 3 pounds. I couldn't document any of these catches because for the last week I haven't been able to locate the digital camera (I guess thats why you don't drink and fish). I was pretty content at this point and decided to head to the shores to back for my upcoming trip or at least I thought that was the plan.

I land on shore around 8:00 and I'm unpacking my gear when a fellow boater decides to be sociable and starts a conversation. He lives on Maspenock too and was interested in if I had any luck. During the conversation he almost bottomed out his friends bass boat even though I had previosuly warned him of the rocks that existed near my shore. I decide to throw some casts while we chat. He runs some local tourneys so I was interested in what he had to say. About 5 minutes later I feel a steady pull on my line, I wait a few seconds and give a solid tug. I can see some weeds on the top of my line but still felt something else on the end of my line. The conversation ceases and I start to give a steady reel. I didn't think it was anything substantial until it was half way to the shore and then the fight began. The monster didn't surface but instead heads dead right. About 15 seconds later I finally see the beast on the end of my braid- Holy **** I shriek as I new it was Wall Worthy! I didn't have a net so when it got close enough to the wall I jumped in the water and luckily was able to grab the Pig by it's mouth. I take it on shore and the WHOOOOOOO's began! I needed pictures so JB was kind enough to pick up a digital camera and brought it to the house while I kept the fish hostage in a cooler. A few swigs of the Captain was in order, and then a few more! We snapped plenty of photos and then sent the Lake Monster on it's way! Thanks JB, much appreciated. Yeah- I think I got my fish fix on!!!!!!
