I was fishing yesterday just before sunset at one of my local ponds that has some good-sized largemouths when I saw a duck, and adult mallard, struggling on the surface in the distance, quacking, flapping his wings, lots of splashing going on, and I caught a glimpse of what looked like a large fish's white underbelly a few times.

It went on for about a minute, and eventually the duck prevailed and took off.

I know bass eat ducklings, but a full-sized adult?

Maybe it was a snapping turtle? Didn't look like one though. Or a big pickerel?

Anyone ever seen this before?

I've heard of pike/muskies doing this. I suppose a real monster bass could take a small bird from the surface.

Believe it or not, I've seen a bass attack an adult duck just this year. They go for those flappy feet.

Glad I'm not the only one who's witnessed this - I could barely believe my eyes!

Good point about the feet. I suspect if a bass did manage to drown a duck, he would soon realize he couldn't swallow it.

I saw a video recently of a dead bass a guy found that died trying to eat a fish that was too big that got caught in his throat.
