Which do you think is the better buy?

SA Bass kit http://buy.scientificanglers.com/fly-fishing-outfits/bass-fly-fishing-outfit-kit.html

or

Heat complete http://www.basspro.com/Heat-Complete-Fly-Outfits/product/10210102/-1761216

The only obvious difference is the length of the rods. Is it harder to cast big flies with shorter stiffer fly rod?

I say the Bass pro one. I have a hobbs creek 8# 9' rod that I use for carp, big bass etc. The action, the feel, the castability are all great.

I orignally bought a scientific angler one a long time ago, 5 weight and wasn't as happy with the rod in general which is why I ended up buying the Bass Pro Hobbs creek I own now.

You can see my rod in one of our videos here if it helps heh

As far as big flies..start smaller..Huge plugs are fine but they will take a lot of practice to move regardless of the rod. They aren't easy. That said there are a tone of great hopper patterns, dragonflies etc as well as some great streamers, minnows and bugs that will nail bass without the need for huge plugs.

The Scientific kit is a smaller rod if your looking for stripers and blue, but would be good for big bass as well. The link for the second one did not work

Thanks Blackstone for the video that was awesome!

Thanks for the feedback Mark I am sorry you did not get to see the Heatcomplete.

I just checked the basspro link and they must have sold out...so they removed the page. This is the 2nd time they have sold out on this combo BTW.

Bass pro has a sale on power pro graphite fly rods...$12.59 for either a 6wt or 8wt two piece rod. I need to get down there an pick up one as a back up for the one I have.

Both the Heat complete & the Bass kit combo are 4 piece rods. Assembling a 4 piece is somewhat slow IMO as you have to align all the guides up and then string the rod trying not to miss a guide.

I guess I will keep looking...and saving up.
