Hi All,

I moved to Arlington last Fall; this is my first time living East of the Mississippi, and I'm trying to make sure I've got the flies I need now that I'm finally getting out and wetting my line.

What would you consider the essential patterns and sizes of flies for Trout in Massachusetts and New England waters?

I enjoy catching Bass as well, but I don't figure their preferences are any different here than elsewhere.

Thanks for the help!

blue winged olives and light cahill are pretty productive. I usually do OK with 12 and 14 sizes, but early morning on some rivers in the heat of summer be prepared to fish some size 20 midges on 7X tippet.

hoppers are great for some clear pools near dams in the late summer too.

I've caught most of my fish on woolly buggers. Green and black have been my mainstays but I've also had luck with brown. The good thing about woolly buggers, and mudler minows for that matter, is that every fresh water species will hit them.
