I keep losing fish, I think they're trout but i'm not sure. I use the powerbait eggs and they head up stream but I keep losing them. I'm brand new to river fishing, and I know trout spit lures and stuff out but any advice would be greatly appreciated! I'm more of a bass and pickerel kind of guy so I need help with it.

Not sure where you fish but another possibility is sunfish. They do this all of time in the river. Hence the reason why you can't able to hook up.

If you truly believe it's trout, just start reel them in when you felt/know that trout is already bite it. If it didn't work, upgrade your hooks. Make sure they are sharp.

using power eggs make sure they are not too big for the hook .A real egg is mushy and will not cause issues hooking up but power eggs stay on and get in the way sometime . Go one size larger on the hook or try circle hooks
