So I was fishing the other night with a buddy and he wasn't paying attention to where was casting and he hooked my rod and casted it straight into the water the reel hit a rock and chipped so now anytime I cast it the line gets caught any tips on fixing this issue?

Maybe posting a pic would be helpful. If the spool is chipped, you may be able to order a new spool from the manufacturer or find a used one on Ebay.

You could get a small "fine" file and file it smooth, taking out any bumps or snags, then use some 220 grit sand paper then some 600 grit sand paper. If you want to just use sandpaper, id start with 100 to 150 grit. Just sand the spot thats chipped. Dont go too far left or right of it.
