Fishing has been either on or off, Leo, Artie and John wanted to target Sailfish. This is the time of the year to catch Sails and had been consistent bite, with the right current, wind, bait concentration and structure mostly current, the sails are biting. So we headed out of Ft. Lauderdale inlet and headed South for 6 miles. We found a nice fishing area, water looked right, the water color and the current was there. This was the best area to fish and we put out 5 live baits. We were lucky to catch one sailfish. Considering not many other charter boats didnt even see a fish, we were happy with our one shot and did catch the Sail. Unfortunately it did take two hours for the Sailfish bite, however she fed and we ended up catching her. Nice battle, about 25 minutes on light tackle. John send some photos and I will attach to this fishing report. As the winter comes into Ft. Lauderdale and South Florida, we will see more and more Sails. The big push is when we cold fronts come from up North. The pressure drops and the fish start to head South hopefully to Sout Florida where we are fishing. Adding current and the Sailfish will snap off. Last year we had a great Sailfish season and hopefully with a cold season, South Florida will reap the rewards of a good Sail fishing bite. My father Captain Tommy Zsak has been charter fishing our Ft. Lauderdale waters for over 25+ years and he has seen some of the best and slower seasons of Sail bites. So far the bite has been decent, not great yet but January and February are right around the corner and typically are the two very best months to catch Sailfish.

To finalize our trip, we catch one sail and two mahi.

In a four hour fishing trip, we typically catch a few more, but the current was not exactly the best. We do fish hard and will show any of our repeat fishing customers and or new fishermen customers that our goal is to maximize every moment of the trip. Fishing is fishing and can not control the bite, however we will and do fish hard to ensure you have a good charter.

To book a charter, contact Capt. Tom or Dave Zsak and will be happy to discuss the current conditions as well as the best to target a particular species.

Charter boat "Happy Day Today" is a 46' Hatteras with everything included in the charter.
