Someone I know got stopped by a Game Warden in New England recently because they were using corn as Carp bait. The Warden didn't penalize them with anything, he just simply told them to pack up their stuff and leave and asked them if they knew that it's illegal to use corn to fish for Carp. I've done a lot of research over the past few years about the affects corn has on Carp and have seen plenty of evidence that it doesn't hurt the species, while I've also seen little evidence that it does hurt the species. For these reasons I have posted this poll to get the publics opinion on the question. Please only answer the poll if you have done a good amount of research on the affects of the matter!

Thanx,

The thing to keep in mind, the use of corn and the practice of chumming are not illegal due to their effect on carp, but typically because of the effect on other species..Trout waters in particular are usually very strict on baits and methods.

That being said I am happy with most rules concerning the use of chumming/corn and have been able to fish carp in no corn/chum waters with just as much success as those I can chum/use corn in. The way to fish is just different..instead of chumming try using a container of molasses to dip your hook bait in and you'll be surprised how hard carp will hit it even though it is the only hook bait in the area. That or if you use boilies, make some that are crazy bright and extremely strong flavored. The change from a nutritional boilie to an attracting one can be huge when you can't chum.

Corn/maize is a good bait, but by no means should it be an end all be all bait. I always have a good amount of things from particles like maize/maple peas/chick peas/etc, to doughs and boilies, pop-ups and what not..heck, half the fun I have carp fishing is being able to make my own baits.
