Popup question

I was just wondering how everyone feels about the "popups" on the site? When you view trips and user profiles, I have them popup into new windows. I originally designed it this way because with the mapping component I wanted an easy way to view details without having to go to a new page and leave the map. As the site continues to grow, however, I am looking at redoing the site so there are less (or no more) popups. What are your thoughts on this? Would it make the site easier to navigate?

Any feedback on the navigation of the site is greatly appreciated.
