Just wondering what people find most effective when trolling for trout? I've only ever trolled for trout using fly rods and handmade flies.

I'm looking to take the girls out trolling around Comet Pond in Hubbardston, and would love to hook them up onto something nice!

stick with flyrod/flies for trout. with another rod/small spoon or inline spinner.

you should get bites on either rod. Depend on trout's picky days on foods. sometimes, both rods will bend, sometimes, either rod will bend. so, Good luck.

p.s. if nothing works, you always can go with live worms.

I get all my trout luck on spoons, usually in the 1/4 ounce size. Maybe pick up a little cleo by acme, one of my favorite trout lures.

Thomas' buoyant spoons 1/6 oz or Little cleo

Mepps Anglia or blue fox spinners size 0-2

Wordens flatfish or Luhr Jensen Kwikfish

or a rapala minnow style lure

Does anyone here do well on trout with inline spinners? I don't like them because the smaller one are so lightweight and I don't get squat on them. Spoons and salmon eggs on an egg sinker rig are all I catch them on. Inline spinners have no action, when you think about it, except for the spinning blade, and that's not much.

baystateangler - you will be surprised what you will catch them on inline spinner. I pulled 9.5 pounds largemouth bass on it. However, this guy asked for tip on trolling. Its exactly what I did. So, just try them, more different lures in different lakes will work. like I said, trouts are picky. they get to make decisions, not you.

last year, I pulled 8.4lbs brown trout on kayak (trolling spoon) and 6.10lbs rainbow trout(casting spoon).

Two years ago, caught 6.11lbs rainbow on inline in river.

So, fishing on shore, shiners, eggs, powerbaits, blown up worm, and etc are always work well.

But I just stopped using them now because focusing on bigger fish instead trouts. My dad is depend heavy on inline spinner. He had far success on it especially trouts.

depends on the time of year, sometimes you may need to get a little deeper.Try a barrel swivel with a 3 to 4 foot leader then pinch on some split shot just below the swivel .. I use mepps 00 to 1 copper or brass blade , Plain treble hook .
