ive gone out a few times this year. cought a couple 8 pounders and lost a couple. what i usually do to pass the time while carp fishing is i do some shore jigging for panfish (makes the waiting more fun).

I am hoping to get out this weekend to catch a carp on the fly...probably try Lowell as I keep hearing this is the best place to try and catch carp. any suggestions on what I should throw with an 8wt fly rod?

Wooley buggers and crayfish patterns work well. Or you can go the bread and surface route with white deer hair flies if you can get any feeding up top. You can also try trickling in sweet corn and then using small yellow yarn flies to get them interested.

most rivers will hold carp...try just a bit down river after a dam, usually hot spots for smallies and carp Smile
